A remembrance poppy is an artificial flower which is used to commemorate the soldiers who have died while serving the country.
In 1915, Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae wrote the poem “In Flanders Fields” which talks about the fields of poppies which grew on soldiers graves. Three years later, YWCA worker Moina Michael attended a conference while wearing a silky poppy pinned on her coat and have distributed two dozens more to others present. Since 1920, the National American Legion adopted the poppies as the official symbol of remembrance. Up until now, the tradition is still being kept.
